Jim Smith

Regional Vice President in the Indianapolis Office
My experience and education is in civil engineering. I have worked as Plant Engineer for Eli Lilly and Structural Engineer for Arsee Engineers. In 1996 I learned about FBi Buildings and the new church design-build division (now Aspen Group) that they were developing. I was intrigued by their strong kingdom vision and I could see that my skills and interests aligned well with their needs. I never dreamed that my engineering focus would open so many doors for ministry, responsibility, leadership and teamwork. What a great experience it has been!
Get to know Jim...
The most rewarding part of my job is...
When I get to see a new facility come to life with ministry when we hand over the keys! It is very rewarding to know that my contribution made a difference!
One person living or dead I would like to meet is...
My Great Great Grandfather, David Dudley Smith who was a great man of faith and determination! He left us writings that have blessed the family for generations. Still, I would love to go back in time and warn him to not board the ship that would sink in a hurricane. He was returning home with his California gold!
Music on my iPod...
Switchfoot, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, David Crowder, Third day, Chris Rice….
If I could learn one new skill it would be...
I would like to take my acoustical guitar abilities to the next level so I can play with my musically talented family!
How I spend my free time…
I love to spend time with my lovely wife and four wonderful kids. We enjoy church activities, music, biking, tennis, swimming, lake activities and working on our cabin in the woods. Somehow, we have acquired a variety of animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, ducks, a guinea pig, a goat and one special pony! It is a highlight for my family whenever someone comes to visit, especially for barn parties and hayrides.
Words to live by...
“It’s a sin to bore a kid with the Gospel!” Marching orders from Jim Rayburn, founder of Young Life International.
